Precious Chelsea was born into poverty in one of the largest slums in Nairobi. His parents migrated from a rural village in search of better opportunities but found themselves trapped in a cycle of poverty
and struggle. Precious is the eldest of three siblings, with a younger sister aged 4 and a baby brother just turning 2.
Precious’s family lives in a cramped one-room shanty made of corrugated metal and tarpaulin sheets. The slum is overcrowded, with narrow alleys filled with garbage and open drains. Basic amenities like clean water and sanitation are scarce, and electricity is often stolen through makeshift connections.
Education: Despite his circumstances, Preciuos attends a government-run school located near the slum. The
school lacks proper infrastructure—classrooms are overcrowded, there’s a shortage of teachers, and resources
like books and stationery are limited. Precious dreams of becoming a doctor one day,
Challenges: Malnutrition is a constant concern, with meals often consisting of just rice or bread. Precious has
faced bouts of illness due to unsanitary conditions and polluted water. The family struggles to make ends
meet, often choosing between food and other essentials like medicine or school supplies.
